SPRING BREAK

We took a trip to the zoo with a friend.

We all loved the shark petting area.

Okay, maybe not the sharks so much as

they seemed to try and avoid us.

Here are the girls having fun -- even if it was barely 50

and cloudy.
The Rhinos were cool.

And look - Spring has sprung here in Indiana.

Finished Projects

Okay, I know I am lacking in my blogging.

But I am knitting.

A friend asked could I attempt to make a USA opening ceremony hat.

Well here is the prototype.

I learned a lot and will make adjustments.

But it wasn't too bad for a first attempt at fair isle.

I have also completed a baby blanket for an as yet unborn little boy.
He is due to arrive in May and this will be waiting.

Brooke named it "Cookie Monster Blankie"

because it truly is Cookie Monster blue.

Some Olympic Spirit Knitting

So as the Opening Ceremonies for the Olympics in Vancouver were on the horizon

my dear son asked for a scarf that looked like the Canadian Flag.

Um..sure...dear.

Well a little web search for a knitted Maple leaf pattern began.

And whalaaa!

The Canadian Flag Scarf.

I also made a pair of wrist warmers to match my daughter's Jayne hat.

I will post them tomorrow and a photo of my gray sweater that is

warm and wonderful.

A Fun Weekend Was Had By All!!

Okay things are backwards, but we will start with the good news...

COLTS WIN!

My sister & I were blessed with free tickets from our

sister-in-law. We went and cheered the Colts to victory.

Here we are happily in our seats -- see all those people above us!
And now moving on to even more good news:
Earlier in the weekend we had a great celebration for my Mom's 75th birthday.

Here she is with all her kids!

I bet you guessed Jane is my Mom.
Here she is with her cake. It was a fun day and visited with friends and family!

Oh and my sweater is done and I wore it -- will wear it again and get a picture.

Here it is -- the felted beer bottle cozies!

I made 3 to give away to some special people.

Since this only took about 1 hour to knit and about 30 mins in the washer...

and scrap yarn...I can see that I will be making many more.

This was the prototype - so I think I will make them a bit wider -- they fit my

hand comfortably but I can see needing wider ones for guys.

WHO OUT THERE WANTS ONE??

Oh and I finished this last week. And sorry but it is all mine.
It is warm and soft and easy as pie -- just take 2 different balls of
self striping yarn and switch them every 2 rows of this 1x1 rib.
I love it and got yarn to make a hat soon -- won't match quite like this but close.

Cool Item

So in my knitting life I am busy making a nice grey (or is it gray?) V-neck pull over sweater. I am 2/3 done with one sleeve and just have the other sleeve and collar ribbing to go before I am done. I hope to wear it on Friday or Saturday.

But as a break last night I quickly knit up some 100% wool in a striped pattern then promptly felted it (in a front loading washer no less) - some say this can't be done. It looks great.... and with some cutting and sewing I will make ....... (imagine a drum roll right here).....

I have to cut and sew then I will get a picture. I promised these to a couple people and I think I can get at least 4 out of my felted wool strip.....

The New Year....

Here are a couple of things keeping my busy in 2010.

This scarf is made with sock yarn -- so more for pretty than warmth.

So no rush to get it done right now. I picked up this lovely yarn in Alexandria this past fall.

Here is my newest project.

A gray Vneck sweater knit from the top down.
This is a new technique for me.

I am loving it so far. It will be nice and warm -- I am hoping to finish it in a week or 2.

Joe made this in 3D art class. He has been

hanging around here for awhile - but when the kids put the hat on him

I knew right where he should go.

This guy is papermache and his tail is just as long as his body but it

is hidden under the tree.

I Can't Blieve I've Made 2 of These....

Sometime last year I made Brooke here first "Jayne" hat.

(If you are a Firefly fan you understand this.)

And she wore it a lot - was easy to spot in a crowd.

But the yarn was cheap & not quite the right colors.

The a month ago or so she lost it at school - can you believe someone

didn't turn it into lost and found?

So I promised here a better one.

Much better yarn, colors and thickness.
She feels much happier sporting her nice new hat.

Now to make matching fingerless gloves for her.
Ahhh what a Mom won't do for her child!

Sorry to not blog at all last month.

One thing I was doing was getting these 3 gifts done

for the holidays.

Can't wait to introduce these 3 to their new owners.

Are you prepared for the holidays?
I have mailed my cards. And I even wrapped a handful

Things That Keep Me From My Knitting

WHS Marching Band made it to Semi-State.

First time ever!

See they move so quickly I can't even get a good picture.

So we have been watching them March the last few weekends.

Then the youngest made it through to the championship game

of the fall soccer season for the U14 league.
Maroon looked great! Yes it is coed.

And WOOHOO they won! Here is M(with glasses) and the gang.

So all these things keep me away from my knitting and I am feeling
the Christmas crunch - so much to make so little time.
But here is a lovely gift coming along nicely.

Two Down One To Go.....

So the 2nd 16 year old in the house got her drivers license too!

Here she is getting ready to drive herself to band practice.

Sadly the van for the 2 of them to share died.

So now we have 4 drivers and just 2 cars.

The boys are looking for something but that is going slowly.

Here is my latest knitting on a reluctant model...

Yes a Harry Potter scarf ~ and I think my first finished Christmas gift!

Oh and luckily we have just about 3 years rest til this one starts driving!

Busy Time of Year

We are just finishing Cross country season, still in the middle of Marching Band season and Soccer season. I dream of the Saturday that we no one in the family has to be somewhere.

But our big news of the week is that Joe was interviewed by a friend for a magazine article and it came out yesterday.

Milestones

It seems that when the kids are really little they

reach milestones all the time. First smile, first word, first steps - you get the idea.

Then as they get older the milestones are fewer and farther between.

Well yesterday a BIG Milestone was reached at our house.

Joe drove away - Alone!

Oh and remember driving a minivan is Cool.

He got his license the day before and took off for cross country practice today.

Do you see the smile on that boys face?!

He couldn't wait - although he did have to listen to a

"mandatory mom lecture" before he could go.

I told him they would kick me out of the club if I didn't give him the talk.

I am proud - and I am gonna secretly (okay maybe not so secretly) worry.

Also last night Brooke had a Milestone of her own - she (okay the whole WHS Marching Band)

was on TV. They were the band of the week.

can't really say why I haven't been around.

More Vacation Fun

We went to Arches National Monument in Moab, Utah.

It was our 2nd time there. I really love this place.

We also saw the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah.

The are very different and therefore kind of cool.

This is the place that the cars and rocket cars race fast.

Spent some time on a Saturday morning at the Market in San Francisco.

Lizzy at her baptism today.

She is as sweet as she looks.

Last week the big kids and I took my mom downtown - just to see a few thing

we rarely do.

Here is a view from the Library - down to the War Memorial.

We had the best day of the week.

We stopped in the County Library - it was just remodeled just a bit ago - it is very

very cool! Here are the kids in the "old" part.

Are we nerds that we checked out the Library?

We are trying to do fun things -- we went in the War Memorial museum.

It was free, the Library was free - we at lunch at the Scottish Rite Cathedral.

Nice day.

At the end of April Brooke and I got a chance to walk the dog

around the IMS!

It was a fund raiser for the the local humane society.

We were blessed with a nice day and I think Auggie

enjoyed it the most.

Sorry the blog is slow.

I am knitting (I think I have 3 things on the needles -- none of them very

far along.)

Life is busy around here - with all the year end busyness.

Yesterday I got to see little Lizzie --

she is precious. She already loves her blankie & I can't

wait to see her in her little sweater.

So I have babies on my mind. Thought I would share this cute little baby photo I found.

The other fun thing going on is the

American Cancer Society Relay for Life

our local Knit shop is sponsoring a team.

And we will be knitting for 24 hours during the walk.

A group of us are knitting for 3 hours Saturday and I think

I may come back and knit in the early am on Sunday.

I think it is really cool that we are doing this.

I am going to knit a pink breast cancer scarf.

So that is just some of what is going on here.

Try try again!

This is a tiny litttle sweater for a little girl due right around Mother's day. I made a sweater and it turned out not so good. I really want her to have a little sweater so I found another patterned and here it is.
I need to get it to them so they have it right away -- this will only fit for about 2 or 3 months. I may make a bigger one for when she grows..... we will see.

Great Use of Time

We headed up to my Mother-in-laws for a family wedding on Saturday.

Which meant 2 1/2 hours in the car Saturday and again coming home

on Sunday. To make the best use of my time I downloaded 4 discs

of a book on cd onto my ipod.

I was able to knit and listen to my book both ways!

YEAH for technology.

I love being able to read and knit at the same time.

Disappointment in Knitting

Okay this is a lame image to use.

But it is how I feel.

I had a knitting disappointment.

Because of it I did not blog and am doing a very very simple scarf.

I put the cute little baby sweater together and it looks horrible!

Can't give it to anyone - even if the baby can't complain.

I talked to a friend about how to maybe salvage the project.

But I am so bummed by it -- it looked great when it was just 4 pieces,

I just haven't been able to post anything.

AND

no photos till I fix it -- if it is fixable.

I will try to fix it.

My backup plan is that the parents will never know there was an

attempted sweater and I will give them a cute yellow hat and booties.

And man you clamoring hordes of blog

commenter are relentless....

A Stressful Present

Here is the baby blanket I have been working on.

This was taken Saturday am.

I needed it done by 5pm that day.

So I knit as much as possible Saturday.

AND

Here it is being given to the expectant parents.

Derek and Greta are due in early May.

We surprised them with a little baby shower on Saturday

evening.

They love the blanket - and hopefully so will their little girl.

It was a very stressful knitting weekend.

Now I have begun a cute little sweater for this

same much anticipated little girl.

See the Easy Lace cardigan is moving along -- third time starting is a charm.

I was adding an extra stitch in my head -- it was not on the pattern.

Sometimes mistakes are on the readers end!

I love the feel of the yarn.

And it is tough to see in this photo but the lace at the bottom is really cool.

I sat at the boys basketball game last night and got

about 2 inches done. Brooke was playing in the pep band.

Not that the regular reader will know - but Kim will -- I am thinking I will add a button

or maybe a pearl bead later -- could not find a button I just loved.

Oh and this came out of the March 2009 issue of Creative Knitting -

It is Baby Twist Alpaca.

It is a lovely yarn. It will soon be a pretty cardigan sweater for me.

Superbowl, Snow & The End of a Season

We had a blast last night at the Jacob's Superbowl party.

Not tons of football watching - but lots of friends chatting.

And we did all get to view the 3D commercial.

Isn't Stacy cute in her paper glasses.

And Greta, Derek and Jim seem quite amused.
Mara was able to build a snow fort since the snow is sort of melting and
getting more packable.

And Joe had his last meet last week - here he is trying hard

to pin this flexible opponent.

I thought I would get to knit at the Superbowl bash -- nope to much

fun hanging with good friends.

I really love football but only got to watch the last quarter (which

I think was the most activity of the whole game).

I have the baby blanket moving along -- but also have 2 other

projects lined up right behind it -- or maybe along with it.

Snow day Snow day

Okay so yesterday I ran off at the mouth and said

there would be hardly any snow today!

OOPS!

As the picture shows I was way off.

But I am hopeful that I can get a job at the local TV station soon!

We got 9 inches -- on top of the 2 we got the day before.

So the kids got the whole day off.

But of course Jim and I went into work.

Knitting is a Wonderful Thing especially in the Winter

It is freezing here. Okay it is colder than freezing here.

But cold weather goes really well with knitting.

So I am going to sit and knit for a little while.

The background is all white because the deck was covered in snow.

So at least is cold cold cold and we have snow.

So often here it is cold and no snow in sight.

She is a good girl -- see she was longing to come inside!

A Knitted Gift Given!

I sooooo love this yarn.

It has a bit (20%) Bamboo in it -- it helps

give it the shine.

It will eventually be a lovely baby blanket for a friend having a

little girl in May.

Life is getting in the way of blogging once again. I worked quite a bit this week and then there are a few after school kid activities going on. See..... Joe had a makeup wrestling meet. That is him in the green. He won!! Yeah JOE.

Tonight I have to work concessions at the basketball game for the band boosters.

I have my first finished project done -- it was worn again this morning by Mara as she headed to school. I will photograph it when I remember. It is a nice, warm head band (ear band) that matches her scarf.

Since today I am home (my car is in the shop) I made sure to have some new yarn for my next project and I started while waiting on Brooke as she had brass practice last night at church.

It is a lovely baby blanket in 2 colors -- I will get a picture of it soon too.

So hopefully today will kick off my better blogging habit for 2009.

Happy 2009 to everyone!

I am still trying to recover from the holidays.

Today was almost normal. Tomorrow I think I will reclaim the house.

By Monday things might seem quite blah like always.

Not much new knitting going on. There is a friend who has a new

granddaughter so I am making a cute pink hat with the

fluffy stuff on top.

Then I plan to purchase some cute yarn for a lovely

afghan for a very special baby girl due in May.

A friend has asked for an adult pair of clogs for her ill mother-in-law.

Those are what are on tap.

I am keeping the blog going - and will continue to document all my knitting -

hopefully there are many readers out there happy to hear this.

I am not picking a number -- ask some friends I was stress there in November when I wasn't sure I could reach it but it was oh so close.

So lots of knitting for family and friends that is the goal.

Also want to make a couple more challenging items this year too.

I have one pattern for a cardigan sweater that is already near the top of my list.

And just to warn you there will be lots of family photos posted here too!

Ahhh the Holidays.....

Like always with the holidays - it seems to take forever for them

to arrive. Then when they do they are over in a flash.

Here is a quick overview of some of the hub-bub.

Christmas morning - after Dad's scavenger hunt/ guessing game for extra gifts.

The kids got to share in the cash!

Then we headed to my mom's - where she is famous for her shared/multiple gifts...

this time it was my sister and I - we received very cool shirts.

The quote is "My Sister has the Best Sister in the world"

Gotta love it.

My sister got knitted item #42 for the year!

It kept me up past midnight getting it finished!

The next day we headed to my Mother-in-laws.

Sorry I've Been Busy - it is that time of year

One of my excuses is that there was a big party.

It was a holiday open house at my Mom's last weekend.

See here I am with my Mom behind all the food!

The night before the party I made these for a little girl coming to the party.
They are the 41st knitted item of the year.
The next morning I felted them in Mom's washer.
Aren't they cute?

And here they are on little Sophia -- she is 6 mos old -
she is my cousin Luke's little girl. Here she is with my brother Jim.
Wearing her little slippers -- they are a bit big.
She will fit them next Christmas.

So that was what I have been up to.
This week is the last week of school and we have had snow and some ice
so things are busy.
I have one more Christmas gift to make and another set of little clogs for a 3 year old.

I would like to thank my good friend e - if not for her fun, funky, arty example I probably would have never started this possibly unreachable adventure of a knit resolution blog. She made a resolution on her own loverly blog -- and reached in like JULY. She urged me to try it out -- I think as a way to keep me from overloading her blog comments daily. She knew my secret hobby of blog reading (90% of that being knit blogs) and told me I too could be a blogger.

So the whole new years resolution of trying to knit 40 items in 2008 was established in midish January of this year. I picked a number far shorter than her 100 painted canvases for the year and randomly chose 40 as my target number - this was done without thinking that 2 knitted items a month would be quite alot for me the knitter of just 5 years (this summer). I jumped in really wanting to make gifts for special people in my life.

My 39th item is shown at it's beginnings here on Nov. 10th under the pink hat. It is off to find the person it is meant for --and I am hoping they are not reading this - hence - the cloak and dagger stuff on a beautiful alpaca item.

These cute greenies are meant to be felted (and will as soon as I get off here) for a special almost 2 year old that owns the pink hat in picture.

SO I am PROUD to show you blog readers finished item #40 Taaaadaaaaaaa.......

Here is the picture of #37 and #38.

For some reason the peach ones (that my husband says are pink)

are long -- they did not shrink up much and look sorta odd.

But the blue ones are as cute as can be and

are destine for a lovely young lad.

I am making christmas goodies today.

And sometime the tree will go up - and I have that cool gray

scarf that I am trying to finish -- so that it can be mailed.

37 & 38 -- Nearing my Resolution Goal

Completed project 36 is felted clogs -- they are not as small as expected - so I will find a person they fit to give them to.
Number 37 is a tiny pair of felted clogs for a coworkers fun.

Those clogs are quick and fun!

This weekend there is a big wrestling meet -- I hope to finish the gray scarf that needs mailed out soon.

Cuteness Abounds Here!

Here is project 36 - it really is a burgundy 2 x 2 ribbed scarf -- not so pink as it looks in this photo. It goes with the hat I made last week. They will be given to a gentleman who hangs out in our store alot - he is jobless. So the gals at work thought he could use a warm hat and scarf.
It is a thick scarf and the hat I made on smaller needles is really dense and will be quite warm.
Here is my niece Noelle - she is one - playing with the scarf yarn (much truer color in this picture!) She is almost walking... and is such a sweetie. And I think I have taught her to love yarn.

She enjoyed playing with the ball as it fell apart - lucky for me Noelle's mom was happy to untangle it and wind it into a ball for me.

Gobble Gobble

Here are my brother-in-law Rob and my husband Jim out back preparing to fry our Turkey.

By preparing I mean opening a beer.

The end result though was a wonderful turkey.

I got no shots of the bird going in I was too busy in the kitchen getting the other

stuff ready to eat. There were 16 here. So lots of food and lots of family.

Here are the guys after eating -- the big one on the sofa is my

brother Jim.

After most of the company left (the in laws are here til Saturday)

We went to friends and had a fun little turning on the Christmas lights event

it included a live drum roll and some fireworks.

Today I worked in the morning then we all went to see Bolt at the movies -

Alex - 7 and Hannah 5 really liked it - but so did the rest of us.

This is my youngest new winter coat - brown with a touch of purple or burgundy

in the bright light. So I found this wonderful, very soft, fat yarn

that made this great scarf!

It is a 2 by 2 rib for those of you who know what that means.

She was in no mood to model this right before bed tonight -

you guessed it she is 12 1/2!

This is a nice long scarf ~ she can wrap it twice around her neck at least.

And I think I have enough yarn to make a hat too.

Now off to finish that second peach clog, oh and that scarf for a Christmas gift,

and those other 2 Christmas gifts, and a hat and scarf for a

homeless guy that hangs out at the store....and who knows what else while my

day job kicks into high gear.

OH WELL..... like the song says ..... I can sleep when I'm dead.

Wrestling season started today - Joe is in the green.

got about 4 inches knitted on Mara's scarf during this freshman only event.

In this hard to see pictures the peach clog is unfelted (its partner is 3/4ths completed

but needs more yarn on Monday). It is supposed to fit someone in 1st grade...

the shoe beside it is my size 8 shoe.

I am hoping it will felt to fit the small person it is intended for.

Sorry for no posts lately. Just regular old life for a Mom of 3 kids stuff going on. Wrestling season is under way. Yes the meets are long - but I like watching the kids and usually can get lots of knitting in during them. Our first meet is Saturday and I am planning what I need to take knitting wise to keep me happy.

Weather here has gone from balmy the first week of Nov. to down right cold this week. I believe winter has set in.

And if you look closely you project #31 is atop my current in progress project #32. It is a moss stitch scarf out of charcoal grey alpaca (do you know that I have a 'thing' for alpaca?). It will be a nice Christmas gift for a nice family member.

I am busy knitting -- especially now that winter weather has arrived in the Midwest -- man do I wish our fireplace was working. We need to get it all redone on the inside (it has cracks in the back wall) so now fires in it til that is done -- probably in the spring - bummer.

I have completed project #27. It was a moss green scarf just like the pink and grey one.

I made it for a friend at work and I got so excited that I gave it to her and forgot to take a picture. I told her I would take her picture later this week wearing the scarf.

It was a good day - I gave away 2 knitted items to their new owners. I promise more in the works!

Fall Break

Yesterday and today are Fall Break for the kids - so I happily requested the days off work too.
Talked to my mom and we made plans with my sister and her 2 girls who were also off.
We called my cousins and went to see the newest member of the Wilson clan. The beautiful Sophie! She is now 5 months old and is adorable - even side by side with her Grandpa Joe.

We had a nice lunch with Sophie & her Grandma Barbie and her Aunt Sam. We have not seen them in quite awhile so it was really a nice time.

Before going to lunch we went to an apple orchard and got apples and cider and then went for a hike in their 8 acre corn maze. It was fun - the girls paired off and then Joe hung with me and Grammy and Aunt Julie. There are 10 markers in the maze and you get to pick a topic and are given a sheet with 10 multiple choice questions to help you figure out which way to go.

Here are my Mom, Joe and my sister Julie enjoying the corn maze - it took us about 30 mins to get through it - but it was sunny and dry and we really had fun. Good thing we did not plan it for today - it is rainy and dreary out there today.

My knitting bag made the trip but only to show off a couple scarves -- no knitting was done til I was home with my feet up. My gorgeous green scarf is moving right along.

A Scarf to go with the Hat

Lovely Number Twenty Five

Here it is #25 on my completed projects for the year!

Here it is being blocked tonight on my living room floor! It is so pretty to look at. And now that fall is in the air I think the recipient will be happy to receive this lovely scarf.
The great thing about this scarf is that it looks much more difficult than it really is. That is a great payoff for me the knitter -- I get lots of oohhs and aahhs and they think I am so talented when really this pattern is a fun and a breeze to knit.

I have one more to make for an unsuspecting friend.

Pretty in Pink

Completed project # 23!

It is a lovely cream colored hat -- in a pattern I had done about 3 years ago.

It has a possible home ~ when a coordinating scarf gets done.

(The scarf is not even started.)

It is a bit big on the model - or maybe she is smaller than the recipient.

I have another scarf that is 2/3rds completed. So keep looking for the next completed project!

This photo shows how lovely the gray is. And I wish you could all feel how great this scarf feels - sleek and soft at the same time. This pattern was fun (I am gonna start another any day now if that tells you anything.) And it really was only a bit of a challenge. I learned a couple new things and look how fancy it looks.

It is a cool gray scarf -- or I should say 2 halves of a soon to be grey scarf.

I really like the pattern -- it is fun knitting it. But right now it doesn't look like much.
I am using Classic Elite wool bamboo blend -- love it! I will connect them then block it -- I think tonight if the laundry doesn't suck up too much of my knitting time!

Moving Right Along...

I am not 1/2 way done on my next project - if I find the time (maybe at the soccer game tomorrow pm) I can get it done by the weekend. It is a really cool scarf. I even ordered more yarn for another one - I have special people in mind for each of them.

They are pretty quick and oh so cute and the yarn is a wool bamboo blend that is wonderful!
I am happy to have another project moving right along -- I was talking to friends who knit and they all think my 40 projects was a bit crazy -- hey about a week after pulling that number out of the air I agreed with that. But I will be so happy with any number now that I am over 20 for the year.

Feels like Friday

Since the kids have no school tomorrow -- the homecoming parade was today! There has not been a "real" homecoming parade in our town for quite awhile.
Here is the beginning of the parade. Sadly for my youngest we were near the end of the route and the parade participants were out of candy.
Here is the marching band! When they were playing (right before this photo was taken) they sounded great!
Here are the Flag guys -- I believe they have a real name -- I just don't know it. There were about 5 floats and the football team was on 3 different flatbeds. It was the perfect evening for a parade. I have the whole weekend off (3 days!!). I plan to catch up around here and go to the big game tomorrow. I am told that these guys are called ROCKS boys-- I knew there was a special name.

Attitude Adjustment

I know my post yesterday was entitled happy knitter - and that I am/was. But man today I went to work - also worked last night - and I have to say that I think I need some serious attitude adjusting at work!! So the rest of the week I am going to keep this little yellow dude in mind when I am at work. I am usually a cheerful person but something is pulling against me and I am going to change that. I am pushing back - with a happy, positive attitude -- if it kills me!

Today my friend Roxanne joined Jill, Rosanna & I at the knit store for some laughs and some knitting and as always a good lunch at Kelties.

What a fun beautiful fall day with friends. Everybody got a little something done on their projects and had a good time in the process.

I'm lucky to have a nice place to hang with friends and knit. I really like Tuesdays!

I am alive. Just really busy. For the last week I have had a

taste of single parenting - I am not strong enough to pull it off.

Jim has been up north helping his mom - her basement flooded.

And not just a little.

I am just worn out by keeping the 3 kids on track and on time.

Saturday was crazy but here is some of what went on.

This is Mara (#4) playing in her 2nd game with her team.

They looked really good.

There was also a very large cross country meet.

Joe was not feeling well but this picture is at the end of the 5K

and he looks better than I would.

These are some of his teammates after the meet - the course is nearby and really it was a nice place to spend some of my morning - then the boys and girls parents did a pitch-in lunch.

This plane did 3 or 4 fly overs getting a good view of the runners on the course.

I would have had band contest pictures from Saturday night for the other kid -- but lightening and a long rain delay kept me at home.

Jim arrives home tomorrow -- we are all ready for dad to get back. And I am going to be happy when the older 2 can drive and I do not have to be in 2 places at once.

I barely knit -- just some here and there to keep me sane.

No Good Title

Again I feel bad that I have dropped the blog ball. Life's unexpected happenings have popped up. I am really good at balancing the busy, hectic normal stuff in my life -- that tossing in extras often throw me out of whack!

My husband gone to help his mom deal with flooding in her home for a few days. I rarely act as a single parent so I have to step it up a bit.

For sanity purposes I am knitting when and where I can. Also reading my book clubs pick -- and that has kept me up too late.

Today is knitting with the gals day and I soooooo need it! My friends always make me laugh.

I hope to post more frequently....bare with me.

Little Ethan's Nana picked up his little hat and she is sure it will fit right now. So I promised I will make a larger one if he needs it for winter - no baby should be without a hat.

This hat was just completed! It is finished object #20!! And it goes to a little guy - Ethan who was born last week. It is my standard baby hat with 2 purl rows for fun and 3 cute Icords on the top to look fun.

Ethan is the grandson of my coworker and I know this will be well loved by his mom - I hope it will help keep him warm this winter.

I am excited that I have finished 20 projects -- I think this tops any of the last 5 or 6 years since I began knitting. And I like the fact that many of them have been given as gifts.

Pretty Pretty Yarn

Here is my new yarn --- in real life it seems not so bright - this has the flash on it.

Okay, I will fess up - I can go months without buying yarn - then WHAM - I have to buy something. This one called my name. It is alpaca. Probably one of my favorite things to knit with. I love how alpaca feels in my hands.

I am going to turn this into a lovely scarf to gift to someone this holiday season.

Here is the blanket. It is about 25 inches long. I adore the color and the pattern is quick.

I started the 2nd ball about 3 inches ago. I think it will take 3 balls -- maybe four to make it as long as I want it to be.

I got some lovely purplish alpaca yesterday -- just enough for a scarf - now to find a pattern. I will look here.

I also got a nice medium blue yarn to make a couple baby boy hats for friends - one coworker had a grandson born yesterday -- he will need a hat. The other little boy is not due til winter so I will make sure to get him a hat to come home from the hospital in.

So those projects should go quickly. I really want to get to 20 - that is halfway to my goal -- and way more than I ever thought possible.

Started back with our church book club last night - that was fun - we a have a good group of gals and I enjoy seeing them once a month.

Another Nonkitting Post

Can you see my 2 guys there? Hidden in the tall grass? They were out early yesterday hunting geese. They sat out in the muck and mud for a few hours - but the end result was a happy one.

We ate grilled goose for dinner last night. They had fun - the house was quiet while they were gone. Then they cooked dinner - what more can a gal want on her day off.

High School Friday Nights

Here we are spending our Friday night as parents of 2 high schoolers at

the local high school football game. It was a beautiful August evening.

Unfortunately our team didn't win.

Boy did this take me back to my high school days. I love football and I think that love grew

when I was going to games all 4 years of high school - it started by hanging with my dad on Sundays watching the NFL with him - he always answered my questions and taught me

a lot about football.

For us though it wasn't just the game we wanted to see. It was the Marching band.

See that curly haired girl behind the little guy in front -- she is ours and the star of the show...

well at least to us.

We sat with some other parents/friends. It was a nice way to end a very busy week.

I see a lot more of these evenings in our future.

(I think we need seat pads though.)

Too Much Work

I work part time -- but lately it has been more full time -- or at least matching the hours that the kids are in school a bit too much for me. I like having a bit of time at home to myself and I really haven't had that yet this school year.

Some of the reasons are beyond my control. So I am hoping this is just a temporary situation for a couple weeks - then it will get back to something more normal.

I love working at the bookstore. Books are another love of mine. But I don't like being there 5 to 6 days a week.

Luckily the lap blanket is knitting up pretty quickly -- larger needles helps. I will get another photo of it soon.

The 29th Summer Olympics in Beijing are over. I am sad. I have really enjoyed them - and the knitting time has been wonderful. My family started talking about the Winter Olympics 2010 and started dreaming/planning what we would like to see or do there. We are already starting to fall for the Vancouver mascots. Check them out here.

I have over 7 inches on the new lap blanket - it is really moving quickly while watching different events.

Maybe the convention coverage will have lots of knitting time too.

The School Calendar Says Fall

Fall sports have begun. But boy oh boy was it hot at my son's first high school cross country meet today (he is in the gray shorts). So even though the schedule for fall sports has started - the summer weather is still set on summer. Today was probably the most humid day all summer. It was 85 degrees and 90% humidity. He ran a shorten version of the normal 5K at this kick off event today. I thought he did great -especially since running is not his passion - he runs to stay in shape for wrestling which begins as soon as cross country is over.

Here is my newest project I started just the other day. It is called Annette's Afghan. I love this denim blue yarn. It will go to my mom's neighbor who is 90+ and recovering from hip surgery.

She is in rehab right now and improving - but says she is cold often. So I will make this lap blanket size. It is coming together quickly on US 11 needles.

Okay, I am happy to say that #19 has been completed. It is a gift and the person might pop in here so I am kinda not showing it off in all it's glory. It is snuggly and soft. I like this sagey green color. Very different.

Now for what to do next -- hmmm. I am thinking I need to pump up my gift stash with some cool items -- so I will see what I can come up with.

My Excuse

So I have not been posting -- I blame the Olympics. I kinda like being able to see Olympic events -- even sports I know nothing about -- at anytime. YEAH for Direct TV (we just got it in July). My sleep patterns are getting shorter and shorter because of the 12 hour time difference.

The good news is that the baby blanket is almost finished (I bet by tomorrow it will be done).
Now I just don't know what to make next. I am thinking about a lap blanket for my mom's neighbor Dorothy - she is 90+ and just had a hip replacement and is recovering in a rehab center. She is pretty frail and I hear she is often cold. So the yarn shop is having a sail and I just got a bunch of cool blanket patterns that knit up pretty quick.....so this sounds like a good option.
But as a knitter and a woman I reserve my right to change my mind.

My oldest has been blessed with curls.

Does she look at it that way? - No of course not.

However yesterday she let me fuss with it &

here it is looking really nice.

Just in time for her freshman picture.

I think she is the cutest thing.

And I am sure this post will make her happy.

(that last line is sarcasm)

Now back to the Olympics and my knitting.
