MORE New Yarn

I blame my son. ha ha He was with me in the yarn shop - so it is all his fault. Or at least that is my story and I'm sticking to it!

This is the lovely new 50% bamboo yarn -- it is tiny but really a lush yarn.
The color is a bit more green than it looks in this picture - but it is so nice!
I guess I am liking tiny yarn as of late. But both this yarn and the pretty peony and green sock yarn are highly transportable. Which is important to me right now as we are heading out early later this week for Spring break. It will be easier working with these 2 yarns than a big baby blanket.

Peach Baby Blankie

Here it is -- in all it's Peach glory -- I know it looks pink in these pictures -- but it is a lovely light peach. The shower for the yet to be baby girl this is for is in about 3 weeks! So yeah I am done. Now to just wrap it up all pretty like -- maybe with a cute baby toy.

This is the 11th completed project of 2008. I am so excited. I am really surprising myself with getting these wonderful items (most of them gifts) done.
We are heading out on Spring break the end of next week and I think I have about 3 projects to take with me -- I need to have choices -- I rarely focus on just one knitting project at a time.
Maybe I have knitters ADD.
OH and since I am helping my bookstore publicize the upcoming Yarn Harlot appearance in April I HAD to stop in at a local yarn store I don't usually get to -- and some soft and tender bamboo (yes they make yarn from bamboo - I know how cool) yarn to take on vacation.
The main goal of vacation will be finishing my Rolling Stones sweater -- it will be perfect for spring if I get it done!

New Yarn

Okay so I should be using up yarn from my stash - which some day I should post a picture of... but this pretty yarn called my name today. I am making a scarf - and I think it will be for me. It is soft bright sock yarn -- thin yarn used for socks. As stated in the past I do not knit socks but love the colorfulness of this yarn and decided I had to have it.
Makes me think of spring. And it will be a great in the car project for our Spring break trip.
Oh and the other project I will take with me on the trip is going to use up yarn from my stash -- I promise.

Hippity Hoppity Weekend

Happy Easter to Everyone.
Hope you all found some colorful plastic eggs on your lawn today. The kids here found about 160!

Here are some of my favorite kids ever. The 3 big ones are mine - - the 3 little ones are my nieces and nephew. They came to spend the holiday weekend with us. There was lots of game playing, giggling, Lego racing, and most importantly BABY HOLDING! And yes even a bit of knitting since I had to make another peep. I made that first tiny peep for my littlest niece, then I made the blue one for my youngest daughter, then I realized that my 4 year old niece would probably want one too -- so I got to work on Friday night and finished this guy up on Saturday night.
If you are keeping track - and I know e is she has estimated that I can do 36 items this year at this pace --- is it okay if 15 of those are peeps e? -- this is lovely #10 for the year!
And more exciting is that the fantabulous #11 is SO close to being done - if I don't nap during basketball games.
Happy Spring one and all!

Averaging 3 a Month

Not to shabby.

I am happy with 3 finished projects a month. I am really really working on getting another thing finished this month. I think I can do it.

Oh and the cute stripped pom - pom hat has gone to a cute little guy - Evan. His grandma said he will love it next winter. He was just born in January. Oh and she calls the colors Butler University colors.

The Pom - Poms have it

So the 2 votes I got said to pom the hat. And I listened.

I was making pom-poms while chatting with the girls yesterday.
I do think it looks cute and fun - now to match it to a child. Oh and it is just nice that the hat is in Indianapolis Colts colors. This was number 8 and it is completely finished.
Now just to finish the baby blanket.
Rosanna and I found a cute summer tunic to knit this spring -- I just need to get a few more things done before I start a new big project.

NINE -- so fine

YEAH two finished projects in 2 days! Here is the Hat to go with the red scarf (which is in the back).
I was running out of red so got some pretty natural color yarn in the same make and brand.
The hat is comfy! It is mostly wool and some silk -- so warm and soft.

That means I have 9 knitted projects completed in my new years resolution count. I really like having these 2 items that I can gift together.
I am off to knit with the girls today -- so maybe more fun knitting to show off tomorrow.

Pom-Pom or no Pom-Pom

Okay people - or person - somebody! I need help. Should I put four little pom-poms on the hat or leave it plain? I don't have tons of yarn this was made from leftovers after an baby blanket. I would put 2 blue and 2 white pom-poms.

Here it is plain. I just don't know.

I knit this while at Joe's meeting yesterday. It took no time at all. I don't have anyone specific in mind for this hat -- it will fit a 2 year old or so and is nice and thick.

I also hope to finish the red and natural hat tonight.
I am counting this one as finished and it is number EIGHT!!

My good friend e made a happy list -- I loved it! And I think the reason we are friends might be that we see the happy in each other. I too am a basically always happy person. Anyway check out e's blog and list it will make you smile.

Remember tell me what you think about the hat - to Pom or not to Pom??!!

Knitting talk but no pictures

Sad story - my new (2 month old) digital camera is not working -- so I need to find someone to fix it. UGH!

So for the moment no pictures - but I am knitting. My red hat is now 1/2 red and 1/2 natural -- I like it a lot. It is a spiral rib pattern. It is a 4 row repeat so it was easy to get into the rythum.
I will find my old camera tomorrow.

I like making all these items and contemplating who they might be given too someday. :)

We are having a spring like few days -- it makes me happy -- and then I think of all the yard work I need to do sometime soon.

What is making you happy these days?

My Other Passion

You know that I really enjoy knitting -- duh! I have a knitting blog. But did you know I have another passion too? And it is just annoying that I really can't combine my two joys - at least not very often.

I love to read - thus it makes sense that for the last 9 1/2 years I have also worked at a bookstore. I have not perfected the reading and knitting at the same time thing. I have listened to a few books on audio while knitting but I really enjoy reading.

The reason for this confession? I am trying to finish a really good book by an author I enjoy and that is what I did with all my free time yesterday.

Here is the book I am reading.

Lucky Seven Sampson

I think that is the name of the School House Rock song -- alright -- it is I checked my ipod. And Yes I have most of the School House Rock songs on my ipod -- does that date me? So this red scarf is my 7th knitted item this year!

So what do you think -- I can not get a good close up of the pattern - it is the Moss stitch.
But this photo shows the true color that the scarf is. I just started a hat with the excess yarn - so I guess the fringe question is moot because I will not have extra yarn left over -- but I sorta like my scarves with out fringe.
I am excited that I might have a scarf and hat combo gift to give when I am finished.

Oh and if you were wondering -- those Westfield Middle School wrestlers did just great -- the Shamrocks (Rocks for short - and hence that shamrock had a point in the last post) won the County meet! And my scarf got completed during all the hub-bub yesterday!
Now I have a break and no more Saturday meets!

Promises Promises

I know I have not been around much this week -- looks like it will be this way next week also.
I am knitting - the peach baby blanket. I actually hope to start the ruffle tomorrow. And if this red scarf is not done this weekend I will scream. But I keep wondering if it needs fringe or not. I am really not a fringe type person but sometimes the item calls for it. So when it is done i will photograph it and ask for opinions on fringe or no fringe.

Happy weekend one and all. Remember to spring forward on Sunday if you do that sorta thing.

And Go ROCKS in the county Wrestling meet!

A Gaggle? A Colony? A Flock?

Not sure what to call them... a pride? a trio?
You can definitely call them cute - the white one was made by Lin at the knit shop! Next week I will need to get Rosanna to bring her peep(s) in too.

I only got an hour of knitting with friends today - ACK sick kid again. But I did get more done on the baby blanket.
And we had one day of spring -- now late today we have been having sleet. I am ready for more sun and less snow or ice. Maybe making another spring Peep will make it feel more spring like around here.

Feeling Good

Had to share just one of the 50 Star wars Lego photos I had to work my way through on the camera to get to my knitting pics. My 2 girls were busy for quite awhile making these funny photos.

Now for "real" blog content --- another Peep for me.
Okay he is for Mara but he is really cute and quite a bit bigger - we call him a peep on steroids. Still really really soft. He is knit with OH MY yarn - it is 100% nylon. I am going to try to crank out Brooke's peep next.

And just to show the size compared to the first peep - here they are hanging out together.
The first one is made from the same yarn but on US 4 needles -- the blue one was knit on US 7 needles. I think I may try one on US 6 needles next. The blue one's beak was my first effort and I was happy with it.
If you are keeping track like I am the blue guy is #6 on my resolution count.

And Now it is March

I am happy that March has arrived. Here in my part of the Midwest it has been one long winter. Even though Feb. is a short month -- boy was it mostly grey and seemed very long.

Now that March is here I am hoping for more sunny days and milder weather - - we shall see.

Again on Saturday I watched alot of wrestling - Joe had only one match and made it a good one!!
This is the last week for him - I will miss that dedicated knitting time.

I have one project I promise to show you all tomorrow when it is really finished - and I am hoping to get another done shortly.

Once again thank you one and all for taking time out of your day to share some with me.
